Visioning Day, Teacher Appreciation, and Spring Odyssey

Good afternoon!
What a beautiful weekend! I hope you and your family took the opportunity to be together and to enjoy nature’s gifts.
On Saturday, over 60 members of the Sunny Hollow Montessori community gathered for four hours on Visioning Day to dream big about SHM’s future. For those who participated, thank you so much for investing your time in such a worthy endeavor – I hope you found it invigorating and inspiring. We ended the morning with vision statements that were aspirational, many strategies for each of our strategic drivers, and a sense of having accomplished something important. Next steps include a synthesis of the stellar work from each group by our consultant, big work from our Strategic Planning Committee on May 11, and discussion and a vote by our Board of Trustees on May 26.
Today is the first day of Teacher Appreciation Week! We have a few surprises up our sleeve to express our immense appreciation to all of our staff, but I am certain notes or emails of appreciation to the important people in your child(ren)’s life will be happily received.
Yesterday afternoon, our eighth graders flew to New Orleans with Guide Matt Ripley (and Emily Leutgeb, from Heartwood Montessori) for the exciting beginning of the spring Odyssey. Students had a big role in planning the Odyssey – everything from the different ways to examine culture to the specifics of meal planning. They will return on Saturday evening with many stories and memories to last a lifetime. The junior high students who are here this week have a special week planned with all of their usual studies plus art projects, treks within the neighborhood, hip hop, bubble tea, salsa dancing and assisting with Plant Sale pick-up on Wednesday.
Please make sure the Gala is on your family calendar for May 21. Information will be forthcoming about Casa leader recognition, 6th year recognition, and Jr. High Graduation events.

Have a wonderful first week of May!
Sandy
