Sunny Hollow’s Student Support Services team strives to ensure that all children are afforded equal access to the rich Montessori curriculum by providing academic, social and emotional support to students with diagnosed or assumed learning disabilities. Whether on-site or at a distance, the team works in concert with classroom guides and students’ families to provide appropriate and meaningful supplemental support.
Students engage in scripted literacy intervention programs, including Orton-Gillingham and Read Naturally, as well as custom-designed support plans for mathematics and other areas of academic study. In addition, the Sunny Hollow team recognizes the impact social and emotional wellbeing have on learning and development. Students engage in individualized and small group instruction to understand and manage their emotions, set and achieve personal goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions.
To ensure continuation of these services when learning from home, the Student Support Services team modifies existing learning support plans and designs new ones so students can continue working toward their learning goals with minimal interruption. Academic and social-emotional support includes:
