Student Support Services (Learning From Home)

Student Support Services

Sunny Hollow’s Student Support Services team strives to ensure that all children are afforded equal access to the rich Montessori curriculum by providing academic, social and emotional support to students with diagnosed or assumed learning disabilities. Whether on-site or at a distance, the team works in concert with classroom guides and students’ families to provide appropriate and meaningful supplemental support.

Students engage in scripted literacy intervention programs, including Orton-Gillingham and Read Naturally, as well as custom-designed support plans for mathematics and other areas of academic study. In addition, the Sunny Hollow team recognizes the impact social and emotional wellbeing have on learning and development. Students engage in individualized and small group instruction to understand and manage their emotions, set and achieve personal goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions.

To ensure continuation of these services when learning from home, the Student Support Services team modifies existing learning support plans and designs new ones so students can continue working toward their learning goals with minimal interruption. Academic and social-emotional support includes:

  • One-to-one and small group teacher-student conferencing: Video and phone meetings that respect student confidentiality and consider each student’s unique needs.
  • Video instruction: Pre-taped lessons allow students flexibility to move through lessons at their own pace.
  • Assigned lessons via Google Classroom: Students receive teacher instruction to complete weekly assignments and teacher feedback on completed assignments.
